Biography
Frank Lampard is an English footballer playing with Chelsea since 2001. He is a key midfielder for his club as well as the England team. Formed at the famous West Ham training center, Frank Lampard will be briefly loaned to Swansea in 1995.
During the summer of 2001, he signed a contract for Chelsea at the request of Claudio Ranieri. It is at Chelsea that Frank Lampard will explode on the European scene. After two difficult seasons, he will become a key player in the Chelsea team and will also be cherished by the fans. In the 2003-2004 he will be the only player to have played in all his team matches.
Despite playing in midfield, Frank Lampard is also a very good scorer and has developed furthermore since his arrival at Chelsea (166 goals in 473 games played).
The 2004/2005 season will be season where Lampard will make a name for himself. He is designated as the best English player of the 2004-05 season, helps his team, Chelsea win the Premier League, victory in the English League Cup and qualification for the semifinals of the Champions League.
In 2005 and 2006 he will be instrumental for Chelsea in both the championship and the Champions League. Frank Lampard will become the backbone of the team alongside Didier Drogba, John Terry or Petr Cech.
In the 2007-2009 Lampard will continue to perfom well for his team although injury will keep him sidelined for some time. He will be named UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year and Premier League Player of the Month during this period as he keep on the good performance for his team whether in European competition and the England Premier League.
In the national team, Frank Lampard debuted for England playing against Belgium, October 10, 1999. He will not be part of the English team at the 2002 World Cup, but will return for the national team in 2003-04. He will score his first international goal in 2003 against Croatia.
He participates in the European Championship in 2004, scoring 3 goals. In 2004 he was named as the best player in the England team by the fans. In the 2006 World Cup he will play every minute of England’s matches until their elimination by Portugal. However he will not score a single goal during this tournament.
In the 2010 World Cup Lampard will have a shot at goal that will rebound off the cross bar and apparently cross the line. However the referee will not award this goal although TV replays showed otherwise.
